The Carolina League revealed its All-Star roster for the annual Carolina/California League All-Star Game on Monday, and it includes four Red Sox prospects from Salem and three of hometown favorites from the Winston-Salem Dash.
Salem first baseman Travis Shaw, shortstop Xander Bogaerts and outfielder Jackie Bradley were all voted starters, joining right-hander and Mike Olmsted. Winston-Salem outfielders Michael Earley and Brady Shoemaker will both start represent the host Dash. Pitcher Matt Heidenreich joins his teammates.
Other starters include Lynchburg second baseman Tommy La Stella, Frederick third baseman Ty Kelly and Carolina designated hitter Jeremie Tice. Potomac's David Freitas got the nod to start behind the plate.
Tice, batting .306, leads the league with 11 homers and 45 RBIs. Hillcats infielder Nick Ahmed, who leads the circuit with 19 steals, also made the team.
Bradley, Boston's No. 18 prospect, has torn up the league so far and currently leads the circuit in average (.388), hits (76), doubles (26), total bases (115), walks (43), on-base percentage (.498) and OPS (1.085). He also ranks sixth in steals (13) and fifth in RBIs (37). Shaw ranks second with 41 RBIs.
The league did not announce which pitcher will start the game, although fans will be hoping the ball goes to Frederick ace Dylan Bundy, a newcomer to the league who has made just three starts but has been dominant this year in the Orioles' system.
Winston-Salem manager Tommy Thompson will take along his coaching staff to the Carolina dugout.
This year's event will take place on June 19 at BB&T Ballpark and feature the Carolina League's best facing off against their Class A Advanced counterparts on the West Coast in the California League. The full roster is below:
